Designed for ECE (Early Childhood Education) Teachers and Homeschool Educators

Using fun and interactive science lessons, Curious Minds is designed with Kaiako (teachers) and Tamariki (children) in mind. We have purposely chosen 12 straight forward lessons that generally only require readily available resources from within your centre or a home education environment.

The 12 lessons translate easily into 12 (e.g. one a month) individual or group learning stories, presented with opportunities for extended learning and additional resources. The lessons are aligned with the New Zealand Curriculum Te Whāriki and describe how each lessons weaves into the principles outlined in the Curriculum.

What's explored?

The 12 lessons cover the follow scientific concepts.

  • Surface Tension
  • Chemical Reactions
  • Gravity and Force
  • Light and Refraction
  • Propulsion
  • Movement of Molecules
  • Phototropism
  • Evaporation and crystallisation
  • Natural Environmental Processes

About the Creator

Hello! My name is Trelawne and I am mum to a very busy and curious 2.5 year girl.

I run my own business which sees me work with a wide range of clients, including a wonderful kindergarten.

One of the things I have noticed while working in the ECE (early childhood education) environment is that time is incredibly scarce and finding the time to craft lesson plans that weave seamlessly into the NZ ECE Curriculum (Te Whāriki) and provide opportunities for extended learning is very hard.

This is why I have developed this 12 lesson programme to help relieve some of this pressure. You can choose to run the programme as a once a week or a once a month programme.

I hope you enjoy it and I can't wait to get your feedback on how we can continue to evolve the programme to benefit teachers and students as best as possible.
